The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra Appoints Violist

Following auditions held this month, the RI Philharmonic Orchestra has awarded a viola position to Robert Bruce.



Robert Bruce is a Boston-based violist whose work spans a wide range of styles and genres. His artistic practice focuses on expanding the role of the modern violist and moving beyond traditional boundaries of classical performance. Robert plays with other orchestras such as Hartford Symphony Orchestra & New England Chamber Orchestra. He is a member of Beacon Ensemble, a Boston-based chamber group dedicated to crafting engaging narratives through performances of 20th- and 21st-century music. Robert also performs with hornist Amber Dai as part of the duo Bad Time to Scream, a collaboration devoted to commissioning new works, championing living composers, and exploring new sonic landscapes. He holds both a BM and an MM from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
