The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra is proud to be a partner in the National Alliance for Audition Support (NAAS), an unprecedented national initiative to increase diversity in American orchestras. The Alliance does so by offering Black and Latinx musicians a customized combination of mentoring, audition preparation, financial support, and audition previews. NAAS is a partnership between the Sphinx Organization, League of American Orchestras, New World Symphony, and over 100 orchestras across the nation and is funded by a generous grant from the Mellon Foundation and contributions from the member orchestras. SECTION CELLO

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Highly qualified musicians are invited to apply no later than Monday, October 2, 2023, by following these three steps:

1. Fill out this brief online application form.
   
2. Email a one-page résumé to auditions@riphil.org. Résumés should be in PDF or Word format. 
   
3. Mail a $50 deposit check (postmarked no later than October 2, 2023), to:

If the candidate’s name is not printed at the top of the check, please clearly indicate it on the memo line. 

The deposit will be returned at the audition or destroyed if cancellation is requested on or before Thursday, October 26, 2023. Cancellations after this date are very disruptive to the audition process. Any cancellations after this date or no-shows at the audition will be documented and will result in forfeiture of the $50.00 audition deposit.

POSITION INFORMATION

Offers of employment at this audition are contingent on the winning candidates’ furnishing of proof of their current ability to work in the United States. Employment will begin as soon as January 2024 and no later than September 2024. 

RIPO is a per-service orchestra offering approximately 70 services in the 2023-2024 season. Permanent members must meet contract minimums as outlined in our CBA. Current scale is $148.20 per service. Mileage is paid by zone, starting at $15/day for those residing further than 19 miles from our venue, with a cap of $25/day. RIPO does not provide lodging or per diems.

AUDITION INFORMATION

Auditions will be held at the Carter Center for Music Education & Performance, located at 667 Waterman Avenue in East Providence, Rhode Island. All rounds will be fully screened. 

The RIPO Cello Audition Committee reserves the right to dismiss any candidate not meeting the highest professional standards at any point during this audition process.

A PDF of the excepts will be emailed to applicants upon receipt of their application materials. Auditionees are welcome to use the music provided at the audition or their own copies; however, please note that tablets and other electronic devices will not be permitted in the audition room.
