Community Engagement & Social Impact (CE&SI) Manager

The Rhode Island Philharmonic and Music School is committed to providing music programs that enhance access while working collaboratively with communities to create, develop, and deliver programs that are responsive to community needs. Through the Community Engagement & Social Impact department, RIPOMS partners with schools, after-school programs, social service agencies, and other cultural arts and nonprofit institutions, advocates for music education to enhance and provide access across our region that serves over 10,000 individuals.



The Community Engagement & Social Impact Manager (CE&SI Manager) will work closely with the Assistant Director of Community Engagement & Social Impact to assist in all aspects of programming within the department. Our two largest partnerships are Link Up – a music literacy program through Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute – and Victoria’s Dream Project (VDP) a free afterschool strings program for grades 3-5 in two elementary schools in Pawtucket RI. This visible position requires community interaction and relationship building to expand the reach of RIPOMS programming. In addition to external development, this role is responsible for assisting with the administration of programs, operations, financial reporting, and staff and faculty training. Having a knowledge base of current education practices, DEI context, and advocacy experience that advances and supports high-quality music education is a plus.


Responsibilities:

  • Leads and manages all administration and production of Link Up Education Concerts and Program.
  • Manages seven part-time faculty who work at off-site partner sites.
  • Facilitates communication & meetings with families, teaching artists, music teachers, community members, and partnership staff
  • Attends weekly staff meetings with Education Team and monthly organization-wide All-Staff meetings 
  • Travel to onsite VDP locations 2-3 times per week (backup teacher as needed)
  • Follows all VDP students (current and alumni) and follows up on any absences in lessons, ensembles, or VDP activities weekly.
  • Completes monthly invoicing and record keeping for CE&SI department.
  • Collaborates with Youth Ensembles Manager to manage external performance opportunities for students and ensembles.
  • Is an integral member of the Education Team, a shared responsibility team.
  • Oversees management of instrument inventory and coordinates instrument distribution and collection with VDP Teaching Artists.
  • Collaborates with other departments (Finance, Marketing, Development) on joint projects and needs
  • Assists in managing Boston University fellows and VDP teaching artists.
  • Assists in Professional Development for VDP, Link Up, staff, and other partnerships as needed.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with focus in music education and/or performance preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years administrative experience. 
  • Classroom management skills and experience teaching in classroom settings.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as an effective member in a shared responsibility team. 
  • Possesses a growth mindset and is comfortable incorporating feedback. 
  • Demonstrated creative and strategic problem-solving.  
  • Excellent organizational skills - the ability to manage a large volume of communication with a variety of customers and faculty members efficiently and effectively in a dynamic environment. 
  • Able to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization and across all departments. 
  • Professional and engaging interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • A reliable self-starter with the ability to roll up your sleeves and pitch in wherever and whenever necessary
  • Must have a valid drivers license and have access to a personal vehicle to travel between partner sites and administrative offices
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish and/or Portuguese is a plus

Position reports to Assistant Director of CE&SI and collaborates on all aspects of the department and CE&SI activities for the RI Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School

Benefits:

  • Salary: $45,000-$50,000 commensurate with experience

Hours:

  • 10:00 am – 6:00 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (offsite afterschool at VDP)
  • 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Friday
  • 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Saturday
  • Additional hours as needed, including some evenings and Sundays
