IN-PERSON Audition Requirements

FOR STRING ORCHESTRA


An Ensemble for string students

with 4-6 years of study

This ensemble performs a wide range of original string orchestra repertoire. Students develop their ensemble skills by becoming more aware of their section players, understanding how sections of an orchestra are connected to each other, creating visual contact with the conductor, and increasing their ability to follow the conductor, to match bow strokes, and to follow their section leader. Students work on keeping balance and dynamic contrasts.

Techniques and Skills Required for This Ensemble

  • Student can fluently shift to third position
  • Student displays beginning/emerging vibrato
  • Student displays good tone quality
  • Student is aware of half position
  • Student plays with musicianship

2024-2025 In-Person Audition Dates

  • Saturday May 18 from 9:00am - 1:00pm
  • Saturday June 1, 8, 15 from 9:00am - 1:00pm

  • 2 octave major scales: E, A, C, F, B flat, E flat 
  • 3 octave G Major 
  • 2 octave melodic minor: e, d, g
