Community Partnerships
We partner with schools, after-school programs, housing authorities, community centers and social service agencies designing exciting programs that provide high quality music education and performance opportunities for all. Along with offering sequential music instruction on a variety of instruments, the Music School provides teachers for music appreciation, world music and technology classes. We also work with schools to create their own unique classroom residencies that connect music and the arts to all academic subjects. We currently manage four extensive community partnerships as well as many smaller programs.
Arts Talk
This partnership is between the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and the state’s three major cultural institutions (RISD, Trinity Rep and the Philharmonic). Each year we select a theme, and with RISCA funding we assist several vocational technical high schools to implement arts integrated curriculum. Depending on the theme and what schools choose to do for their projects, the Philharmonic can be involved in multiple in-school performances, workshops or longer residencies.
Wheeler Conservatory
The Philharmonic Music School provides private lessons in drums, guitar, recorder & piano for Wheeler students on the Wheeler campus, Monday through Friday from 3pm to 5:30pm. For more information, please contact the Music School at 401.248.7001 or visit our Wheeler Conservatory Page.
Providence Country Day School
When the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and Music School moved into the new Carter Center across the street from the PCD campus, we found an immediate opportunity for collaboration. Our state-of-the-art facilities, with practice and performance spaces, teaching studios and electronic labs are available to PCD's growing music program. Thanks to our partnership, the PCD Upper and Middle School students can take individual lessons with our professional faculty, and they use our facilities throughout the school day for classes and ensemble practice space. In addition to the availability of our acoustically designed rehearsal halls, PCD instrumental musicians also present performances at our facility.

Blackstone Academy
The Philharmonic provides two teachers for in-school music classes in Latin percussion and theory and keyboard at this Charter School. The classes take place once a week and students are graded and assessed. The classes count toward students’ grade point average and graduation requirements.
La Salle Academy
Music School faculty or Orchestra members lead sectionals (rehearsals for every instrument or groups of instruments) for La Salle Academy’s concert band and jazz band program during the school day.
Pawtucket Urban Music Project (P.U.M.P.)
P.U.M.P is a partnership between the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the Pawtucket Housing Authority and the Boys and Girls Club of Pawtucket. This unique program provides free music lessons in Latin percussion and songwriting to low income at-risk youth who reside in Pawtucket’s public and section 8 housing.
We continually review and evaluate new ideas for partnerships. For more information about partnering with the Music School to provide quality music education and performance opportunities to your organization, contact Annette Mozzoni at 401.248.7032 or amozzoni@riphil.org
